The Vinton Area Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual Senior Expo on Tuesday, March 28— an event that always draws hundreds of seniors, caregivers, baby boomers who are becoming seniors, and businesses which serve their interests and needs. The event is free and open to the public at the Vinton War Memorial from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Chamber Executive Director Angie Chewning said exhibitors will encompass retirement, assisted living, nursing care, health care, home care, hospice, health products, aging in place, medical equipment, insurance, reverse mortgages, hearing and eye care, and health screenings. The Vinton Police Department will provide tips on crime prevention and safety.

Entertainment and demonstrations include line dancing by the Vinton Dancers, led by Shelly McCallum (10 a.m.); Tai Chi led by Steve Garay and the Vinton Seniors (10:30 a.m.); an exercise demonstration by instructors and students from the Lancerlot Sports Complex (11 a.m.); Keith Campbell, the “Bedford Crooner,” at 11:30 and 12:30; the Bell Choir from Our Lady of the Valley at noon; and the Vinton Express Band from 1 to 2 p.m.

In addition to the vendors and entertainment, there will be goody bags, door prizes, vendor giveaways, and free screenings.

Chef Drew Buzik from Star City Succotash Fine Foods and Catering will be selling concessions.

There is plenty of free parking at the War Memorial, which is handicapped accessible.

Sponsors of the Senior Expo this year include, Freedom First, the Berkshire Health and Rehabilitation Center, the Senior News magazine, BNC Bank, GCR Tires, BB&T, The Vinton Messenger, Magnets USA, Cox Business, Parkside Storage, the Town of Vinton, Roanoke County, Vertex Signs, Lotz Funeral Home, HomeTrust Bank, Mountain View Cemetery, AEP, Vinton Roofing, and the Vinton Moose Lodge.

The Chamber has many events planned in the coming months. Next up is the Vinton Wine and Food Festival on May 20, which this year will have a change of venue and will take place at Explore Park.
