David White Davis II of Salem, Virginia, passed away on March 30, 2017. He is survived by his wife of 36 years Kathy Sanford Davis. He is also survived by his sister Jean Jenkins; his three children David W Davis III, Charles Davis and Gretchen Davis; his daughters-in-law Lisa and Wendy Davis; and two grandchildren Logan and Cameron Davis. David is also survived by many life-long friends who held a special place in his heart. He was preceded in death by his father, Rufus Lemon Davis, and mother, Alice Greer Davis.
Like several of his ancestors, David graduated from Roanoke College and received a Master’s at Radford College. David retired in 2009 after 43 years as the Director of 23rd Court Service Unit, Virginia Department of Juvenile Service serving Roanoke County and City of Salem.
David had a zest for life and adventure. He was a life-long dedicated race fan and lover of the great outdoors. He enjoyed hiking, biking, hunting, building, remodeling and searching for hidden treasures at the Goodwill.
David always had lots of cats and dogs. He has now crossed over the rainbow bridge to resume his duties as head dog caretaker. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Salem Animal Shelter, Virginia Paws for Pits or any other rescue organization. The Family will hold a celebration of life in the Spring, which will be announced at a future date. Arraignments will be made by Valley Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
