Vinton names Officers of the Month for October, welcomes new officer

VINTON–Vinton Town Council and Interim Police Chief Jeff Dudley recognized two Officers of the Month for October 2015 at the council meeting on November 17.

The commendation stated that on October 30, Officers Jordan Keith and Scott Giles responded to an accident involving an automobile and a train at 8th Street and Walnut Avenue.

“This incident was very complicated in nature involving many parts,” said Dudley. “Through determination and good interview techniques, they located and identified the driver of the automobile involved, and determined that she had been operating the motor vehicle under the influence. This was a very complex crash and involved several agencies.”

Dudley stated that Officers Keith and Giles handled the situation with a “great amount of self-confidence” and “showed tremendous teamwork” as they worked together to resolve the situation with an arrest.

In other police news, the department welcomed Officer Silas L. Chapman to the force. Chapman served with the Carilion Police Department for four years. He also served in the United States Army.

The Vinton Police report for October indicates that K-9 Officer Jax has moved to a new home with the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office.

The report also shows that the Vinton Police responded to 937 calls for service in October.
